Top Places to Visit in Mussoorie
Mussoorie “Queens of Hills” is one of the best hill stations in India. Located in the state of Uttarakhand, it’s situated at an elevation of 2,005 meters, or we can say 6,580 feet. The Hill station is very well rich in flora and fauna with incredible paranomic views of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks. Mussoorie is a picturesque hill station in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. The place is also known as the gateway to the Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines. People can visit these beautiful mountains in any month of the year but the best time to visit the place is between February to June and September to November as the rains during monsoons and cold during winters make it pretty inaccessible.
1. Kempty Falls
No visit to Mussoorie is complete without visiting Kempty Falls, just fifteen kilometers from the center. The waterfalls look amazing with surrounded by high mountain ranges. The water when falling from a height on the rocky bed it generates amazing sound which gives u a happy feeling, you are going to feel that you are in heaven.
The waterfall is very populated and it is estimated that millions of people visit it annually, so make sure you have to plan your trip very wisely and avoid weekends in the peak seasons. There are no ticket fees but there is a ropeway facility if you want to enjoy a ropeway tour then u have to pay a small amount and make sure buy tickets for up and down for both because it will be cheaper. If u want to enjoy a little bit trekking then walk down in the mountains to reach the kempt fall while going down you will see a small market which is very good, you can do shopping there.
2. Gun Hill
It is the second-highest peak of the Mussoorie, Gun Hill is popular place among photographers and the persons who are interested in a 360-degree view of Himalayan ranges such as Bunderpunch, Pithwara, Gangotri, etc. This place is very famous for ropeway, trekking, sunset and sunrise views. Those who are interested in a cable car can enjoy this from 10 am to 6 pm.
Why the place is called Gun Hill ?
It is very much interesting that why the place is called Gun Hill. Back in time there is an event of firing cannon from this place to tell what time is it to the people during British colonization hence giving it the name ‘Gun Hill’.
3. Lal Tibba
One of the best places in Mussoorie and also the highest point of it. The places are always engulfed by clouds. A wonderful combination of clouds and mountains is easily visible.
It is advisable to visit from 8 pm to 7 pm. It is a very famous viewpoint and photo point in Mussoorie. Don’t forget to take your camera with you as the place is full of natural beauty. I will advise you to wear comfortable footwear as walking in the mountain road can turn out to be hectic.
Always keep a water bottle with you so that there should be no dehydration problem. If you guys have binoculars with you it just a plus point because it will provide a better view of the hills. The place is renowned among the tourists for its romantic sunset and sunrise
If you look attentively then you can see the peaks of Kedarnath and Badrinath.
Whenever you visit this place you are going to witness the sunrise from behind the majestic lush mountains as the whole sky is filled with red hues and trust me it is nerve relaxing experience and one that you shouldn’t miss out.
4. The Mall Road
Every hill station is famous for its ‘Mall Road’. The mall road of Mussoorie is situated at a height of above 2000 meters. It is a major tourist attraction in Mussoorie. This place stretches from the beautiful Picture Palace at east to the Library in the west.
If u really want to explore the culture and practices of Mussoorie, you should visit this place. This place has colonial-style street furniture and architecture, from lamp post too little houses.
Let’s take a walk in the evening to have a local bite. This place has amazing restaurants and café where u can enjoy your evening with your partner. If you are the person who loves shopping then this place is for you.
Keep in mind that doesn’t take any vehicle after evening because no vehicle is permitted after sunset.
5. Happy Valley
Very few people know about this place but trust me if u love to see Tibetan culture then u must visit this place. It is the center of Tibetan settlement in Mussoorie and situated at a short distance from Mall Road. This is the place where Tibetans first arrived in India when they fled from Lhasa in 1959, led by the spiritual leader Dalai Lama before he moved to Dharamshala. The place is lined with oaks and deodars and several small restaurants and hotels. One can enjoy Tibetans’ cuisines and shop for souvenirs and also can volunteer at the school.
6. Camel Back Road
A complete package of nature, adventure, and photography. The road takes its name from the rock which is shaped like a camel’s hump on its back and stretches around a distance of about 3-4km from Kulri Bazaar to Library Chowk in Mussoorie. With its beautiful views of the surrounding hills at sunset and sunrise, it is ideal for early morning and late evening walks. Horse ride and rickshaw rides are also available.
As I told you it is a perfect place for photography so all the photographers take a walk along this valley and capture some everlasting memories in their cameras.
7. Jwala Devi Temple
At a distance of 9.5 km from Library Bus stand, Jwala Devi Temple is an ancient temple situated on the of the Benog Tibba at an altitude of 2100m in Mussoorie. Dedicated to Goddess Durga, this temple receives lakhs of devotees every year. From the temple, you can see the Yamuna River flowing by and Shivalik Hills in the backdrop.
Besides devotees, the temple also attracts nature lovers for its beautiful surrounding and weather. The path to the temple begins from the cloud’s End from where there is a 2km trek to reach the Jwala Ji Temple.
8. Mussoorie Lake
It is an artificial lake situated on Dehradun – Mussoorie highway, almost 6.5km from Mussoorie Library Chowk. The picturesque lake is now one of the famous tourist spots in Mussoorie. Tourists can visit there in any month of the year.
The lake is recently built by Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority. There is a waterfall also where people enjoy very much and boating facility is also available. The lake offers beautiful scenery of Doon Valley and the surrounding places. There are also several outdoor activities for children.

9. Bhatta Fall
This fall is a recently developed picnic spot near the township of Mussoorie. It is located at 10.5km approx. from Mussoorie, Library Bus Stand on Mussoorie – Dehradun Road near Bhatta Village. It is a natural waterfall cascading down from a height of 30ft into a naturally encircled pool. This place is generally less crowded and one can spend quality time here. People can easily reach out there by car and the fall is not very far away from the parking lot.
If u want to stay away from the Mussoorie crowd then you can take hotels nearby this village and one more advantage are that you will get hotels here at cheap prices.
Bhatta Fall Ropeway: The ropeway connects Bhatta village to the beautiful Bhatta Fall. This facility of ropeway was started recently on 1st July 2019 after a successful trial by the scientists. This facility of ropeway provides a new angle to the beauty of Bhatta Fall, the tourist has more things to enjoy now at this place.

10. Company Bagh / Municipal Garden
Company Garden is a very renowned tourist spot in Mussoorie Town. It was previously known as the Botanical Garden of Mussoorie. Famous geologist Dr. H.Fackner laid this garden in the early 20th century.
It is situated at 3.5km from Mussoorie Library Bus Stand near Lal Bahadur Shastri National Administration Academy.
The garden is filled with lots of flowers which makes it very attractive and beautiful. This place also offers a mini lake with an artificial waterfall which makes this place a perfect picnic spot for family and couples. Paddled boating facility is also available in the small lake of Company Bagh.
